Le Cocoa Mudra

We’ve all seen Mudras, whether or not we know it.

Cin

The most popular one that we’ve seen is Cin Mudra.  We mostly see this in the ‘Meditation or quiet seated’ posture.  Bringing the thumb and the pointer finger together, and allowing the other three finger to open; resting the tops of the hands on the knees.  This is demonstrated in the pretty picture to the right.   If we keep the fingers in the same position but lift the hand so that the three fingers are pointing upward, this is Jnana Mudra which is symbolic of Knowledge.  We tend to use this one sarcastically.  For example, when we don’t believe what someone is saying, we lift this Mudra and accompany it with an eye-roll and ‘yah, suuuuure’.  LOL  Okay, we did this in the 80′s… so I may or may not be cool at this point.

Another favorite is Anjali Mudra.  We place the hands together in the middle of the chest, as if to say a prayer.  This is one that we visit quite a bit in my class.   I love feeling the connection between my right hand and my left hand.  Try this one.  Sitting up tall,  placing the hands together at the heart’s center, close the eyes and take a couple of deep breaths.  Do the palms feel like they start to melt together?

There are quite a few Mudras that I haven’t touched on in this post, but there is one more I’d like to include…

I’ve spent the last four days out of town in a studio full of awesome Instructors!  We noticed that our hands were continuously filled with dark chocolate kisses, Reese’s Peanut Butter cups or chocolate covered pretzels.   We were inspired to create Le Cocoa Mudra!!  :) You won’t find this in any of the books or Sutras, and most teacher’s probably won’t appreciate practicing this in their class.  However, this is always a welcomed expression, as far as I am concerned.  :)

May you practice each Mudra with love and peace and chocolate….
