Words that best express my love affair with the .  I’ve enjoyed playing with them in class, and kept saying that I was going to invest in one, but for one reason or another always postponed it… until today.  Today… we took our six-year old to the chiropractor…

A couple of years ago we were rear-ended, and I wondered if there were any significant repercussions lingering within her little body.  Good News!!  Nothing from the accident.  However, the secondary reason for our visit was confirmed to be an ‘issue’….  As we entered the room, the doc had her X-ray hanging on the lighted box and immediately I knew what I was looking at… a mini-me.  *sigh*   Of all the things for this sweet little diva to inherit from her mother, she got my Double .   :(   Fortunately, we are early enough in the game that we can get this under control, but it is gonna take some work.  Heel lift & & a Bolster.  The next 4 weeks are gonna be an interesting experience in reshaping our child, literally.

Dammit, man!  We’ve conquered Infant Torticollis with Yoga, surely we can do the same for Scoliosis.  I am determined!!  So I put my thinking cap on and remembered information that I came across years ago…. Yoga for Scoliosis.  Sent a text to my friend who had a couple of bolsters in stock and immediately went over to pick one up.  We’ve spent the evening playing…. We are trying to keep this process as kid-friendly as possible.  So instead of the 3-minute dunce cap-rib shift, she is Chillin’ on ‘da Yoga Pillow.  :)   Bought a new pair of shoes for her heel-lift and reminded her that she is ‘just like her momma’!  LOL

Between you and me, I think she’s handling this better than we are.

However, the moment she removed herself from the bolster, it was my turn!  Woot Woot!!  That is when most of the descriptive words listed above came to mind.  I placed our earth-green bolster along my spine, tucked it under the base of my cranium and let the rest of my spine cascade down ‘da Yoga Pillow… Holy Sweet Bliss!  Spent the next few minutes in a state of quazi-meditative-deep-breathing happiness.  This was a beautiful posture for my FHP.  Previously, I was on a Dakota Traction Pillow that was re-triggering the sensations of migraines, so I stopped, but the gentle edge of the bolster is super comfortable and just right for my cervical spine.  Next, I placed it under my sit bones, laid across it and went to my happy-breathing place.  OMG…. When I had to peeeeeeeelllll myself up, I felt like a new person!  And these are ONLY two possible postures!

*Side note* my two personal favorites are a supported Plow Pose (bolster under the hips) and Supported Supine Butterfly.  Try ‘em!!

You probably recognized most of the B.O.L.S.T.E.R. adjectives above, but you may be wondering about ‘Organasm’:  This is the word that emerges when you combine Organs and Orgasm, which is exactly what happened when I hoisted my hips upon the bolster. ok, not literally, but you get the point  ;)   Breathing deep helped to relax all of the muscles in the core of the body and especially the lower back!  It felt beautiful!  And really made my “G”ood “Spot”s happy!  LOL  :D

If you are not the proud owner of a Bolster, may I strongly suggest that you get one and play!!  Even if you do not suffer from spinal displacement, it is a wonderful addition to our relaxation/meditation practice.  Please feel free to “comment” and share  your ideas for Bolster Bliss!!  :)

  1. It’s important for scoliosis patients to remain active. Yoga is generally a good form of exercise for those suffering from the condition. However, before beginning a new workout routine it’s important to consult your doctor.
