Back to School Yoga

Feels like just a few weeks ago many of my friends were excitedly counting down the days until their were out of school.  Now, they are equally as enthusiastic about counting down ’til school begins.  Vacations are over, they’ve caught up on sleep and the “mom, mom, mom” has since moved from the patiently answered “yes, sweet offspring of mine” to a “what the heck do you want nooow, I’m changing my name!!”.   :)    Yup, it’s time for school to begin.
Time for the early morning “I don’t wanna wake up” to begin as well.  I love to start my day with a couple rounds of Sun Salutations.  My daughter loves to join me once she is fully coherent.  However, until that happens we have fun playing with a couple simple poses just to get the oxygen and blood flowing.

We start in Sun .  Standing with the feet wide apart, knees slightly bent and the arms shining out to the sides like rays of sunshine.  As we take a deep breath in, we let our Sun Rise; reaching the arms over head and straightening the legs.  Then our Sun Sets, by bending the knees and sweeping the arms down.  Sunrise & Sunset several times until the both of you begin to smile.  Yes, you do have to do these with the little pain in ‘da butts…. you’ll feel better too!!  Just please put down your coffee cup beforehand.  ;)

How the day starts can set the tone for the rest of the day.  Start each day with a big hug and kiss, a couple of fun poses and deep breaths.  Guarantee you both will be in a better mood for the rest of the morning (at least until you get into traffic).

How many days are left????  aaaaaahhhhhhhhhh
